H. KINGWILL, Assistant Secretary CHICAGO, October 20th, 1890 Mrs. Lillie E. Hamm, Eureka, H. B., California Dear Madam:-- In response to your request for some information touching the World's Fair, I would state that under the Act of Congress the dedicatory exercises of the Exposition will take place on the 12th of October, 1892. The Exposition will be open for visitors on the first of May, 1893, and close on the 30th of October, same year. Applications for space may be made at any time and blanks will be furnished which can be filled out by the applicant. The Directory has secured about one thousand acres of beautiful park for the site of the Exposition, and will have not less than one hundred acres of buildings. The exhibits will surpass in variety and educational character anything heretofore seen. The expenditure in the preparation for the Exposition will probably reach $26,000,000. The liveliest interest is felt in several States and Territories, and all the indications point to unparalleled success. Very respectfully, BENJ. BUTTERWORTH, Secretary. [ad] J. N.
