Mathews [ad] HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES 211 MR. WILLIAM CLARK Is both a wholesale and retail butcher, and dealer in choice meats of every description. His special dispatch wagon calls for orders and again delivers the same without delay. A postal addressed to P. O. Box 200, or telephone No. 48, is immediately attended to as per request. In addition to the above Mr. Clark carries a complete line of choice butter, eggs, leaf lard, poultry and fresh vegetables. The public will find in Mr. Clark a thorough, honorable gentleman, and pleasant to deal with. He certainly merits the liberal patronage he enjoys. ERNEST SEVIER Among the legal fraternity of Humboldt county the subject of this sketch occupies a prominent position as a jurist. Indeed, it would be a difficult matter to meet a more genial, affable and sound legal advisor. He avoids the humiliating process so extensively resorted to by inexperienced counsellors. He pleads his cause upon the broad principle of merit. Scandal and distraction are in Mr. Sevier’s estimation unnecessary to solve legal questions. He meets the conflict upon the field of his opponent. The paramount question with Mr. Sevier is, what can the opposition prove? This is the keynote of his success. He faithfully devotes his energies to the surveillance of opposing action affecting his client’s interest. In this he displays alertness and acumen, which receives the commendation of his colleagues. His experience and knowledge of legal enactments of State, county and city, peculiarly qualify him to conduct to a successful issue controversies seemingly hopeless to the casual observer. Attorneys in general are represented as without a soul, but we ask for an exception to the rule in this case, and we feel sure that an intelligent jury will bear us out, that Ernest Sevier is a whole-souled man and advocate. He is but in the infancy of merited success. He nevertheless enjoys a liberal and lucrative practice, confidentially faithful, socially popular, very domestic and liberal to a fault. Visitors are ever welcome at Ernest Sevier’s office. W. J. TAGGART & CO. It is an established fact that W. J. Taggart & Co. conduct the leading and most popular boot and shoe store in Eureka. Although keeping in stock a large and complete assortment of medium goods, these gentlemen make a decided specialty of fine goods, which combine faultless styles, fine finish and perfect workmanship. These goods are either hand or machine sewed, and sold at prices sure to fit the times and the customer’s pocket. The most noted manufacturers of this class of goods are represented in the stock, and the narrowest or fullest foot of either lady or gentleman can here be accommodated to perfection.
