Educated in the pub- lic schools of his native state. Read law under a private tutor, and at the age of twenty-one was admitted to the bar by the Supreme Court of Ohio. Practiced his profession at Wapakoneta, O., until 1897, when he was appointed by President McKinley to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Arizona; reap- pointed by President Roosevelt, and served until April, 1905, when he moved with his family to Los Angeles and resumed the practice of law. Served an appointive term on the Superior Court bench of Los Angeles County, 1909-11. Member Masonic fraternity; Shrine; K. of P.; Union League, Federation and Overland clubs. Presbyterian.
