Ry. as sta- tion agent at various points in N. Mex., 1883-90; engaged in grocery business in Chicago, 1880-89. Sold out and moved to Caro, Mich., as member of firm of T. W. Van Tyne & Co., grain elevator business, 1900- 01; moved to San Diego, Cal., and engaged in vehicle and implement business, 1901-07; automobile busi- ness, San Diego, 1907-08; moved to Los Angeles in 1908, and engaged in paint and varnish business, 1908-11, when he sold out and retired from active business, 1911.
