Educated in the pub- lic schools of Los Angeles, graduated from Woodbury Business College in 1898. Moved to Los Angeles with his parents in 1882; at the age of nine years began learning trade of meat cutter and butcher under his father's supervision; attended school at same time. Sold newspapers, 1895-96; min- ing and prospecting in Alaska, 1898- 1900; engaged in business with his father 1901 to date. In 1903 was a prominent figure in quelling butchers' strike which involved his father's business; in 1904, upon incorporation of Hauser Packing Co., was made vice-pres., which office he holds to date. Gradu- ated from engineering department, Univ. of Ill., in 1878, and was ap- pointed assistant engineer of the United States Coast Survey; assistant engineer of construction of the Illinois Central railroad, 1879; engineer of construction of the Santa Fe railroad; engineer for B. Lanty Sons, building Pike's Peak road, and the S. F. & P. Ry. in Ariz., 1899-1904. Moved to Los Angeles in 1900; mgr. and engineer of the Lanty-Sharp Contracting Co., 1904-06; organized the Sharp-Hauser Contracting Co. in 1906, and was made vice-pres.; organized company of which he is now pres. in 1909. Hauser, Sr.) Has been prominently identified with the affairs of this corporation and in 1903 was active in settlement of butchers' strike which threatened to involve entire city. Worked on his father's farm two years; ap- prenticed to a butcher; worked in Alsace, and in a meat establishment in Zurich, Switzerland, six months; moved to New York in 1867; worked on coal boat on Hudson River, New York; on a farm in New York for six months; in meat shop, Poughkeepsie, N.
