Kans., where he farmed thousands of acres in wheat, hav- ing 3,000 sheep and 300 cows; sold out farming interest; spent one year touring Europe; purchased one-third interest in Ball Engine Works at Erie, Penn., which he continued for a number of years; toured entire west coast of U. S., includ- ing British Columbia and Mexico; made investments in Los Angeles, Cal.; owned one-third interest in Bixby and Howard ranch of 4,000 acres; engaged in farm- ing for fifteen years; operated several thousand acres just east of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, known as the Rapetta ranch.
