Left school at age of twelve to earn his own living in Selma, Ala., remaining there two and one-half years; joined his family in San Francisco, Cal.; with Kahn & Sons, Oakland, Cal., 1879-83; member firm of Kahn Bros., Oakland, 1883- 87; engaged in lace business, Los Angeles, Cal., 1887-92; bought So. Cal. Paste Co., 1892; added confectionery manufacturing to the business, 1900; added crackers and cakes, 1906; now operates plant turning out all three lines of goods. Pres. After leaving business college was employed in U. S. postal service at Appleton, Wis.; was three years in this connection as distributor of mail, register clerk and other responsible positions; moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1893, and studied art in Chicago Art Institute one year; student at Cincinnati Art Academy, Cincinnati, O., two years; while pursu- ing his art studies, received several honorable mentions at annual exhibits.
