Moved to Central City, Neb., and engaged in real estate business, 1884; moved to Pocatello, Ida., 1885, and became clerk for Union Pacific railroad; in train service as brakeman, 1887; in train master's office, 1889; in charge of ex- amining and handling train men, freight and passenger agent, in charge of terminal, transfer yards, etc., for Oregon Short Line Railroad, Pocatello, Ida., 1890-1900; in charge of freight and passenger stations and terminal work for Oregon Short Line railroads, Salt Lake City, Utah, 1902; train master of Oregon Short Line, with headquarters at Salt Lake City, Utah, 1903; superintendent Utah division, comprising lines of Oregon Short Line between Salt Lake City and McCammon, Ida,; Union Pacific from Green River, Wyo., to Ogden, Utah, and joint track of San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad to Sandy, Utah, 1904; superintendent of Los Angeles division of Southern Pacific, headquarters Los Angeles, Cal., 1905; appointed general superintend- ent Southern Pacific lines, El Paso, Tex., to and including Fresno, Cal., and Santa Barbara, Cal., 1908, to date; in personal charge of work of keeping Southern Pacific lines open during 1905, when operation of roads in Imperial Valley country was menaced by Salton Sea; during this time inaugu- rated refrigerator car service by freight to handle perishable products of Imperial Valley en route to Los Angeles, thus affording much relief to farmers in that vicinity. Learned tailoring business in Buffalo, N. Y., 1887; moved to Los Angeles, Cal., 1887; cutter and fitter for several of the leading tailors, 1887-1902; in part- nership in tailoring business with D. M. Sutherland, 1903-12; dissolved part- nership, 1912; established a ladies' and men's tailoring business, 1912, which he continues to date. Member Knights of Maccabee. POINDEXTER, Robert W. Married to Madeline R. Wade in 1886. Attend public schools of Pittsburgh, Pa.; academic course in Western Univ., Pittsburgh; Washington and Jefferson College; graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., 1871. Employed for one year as mercan- tile bookkeeper in Galesburg, Ill.; six months in auditing department of B. & O. R. R., Pittsburgh, Pa.; two years teaching school in Cal.; eight years as accountant for the firm of Latham & King, San Francisco; moved to Los Angeles in 1883 to take charge of branch of James E. Cordon & Co., San Francisco; became manager of the wholesale hardware house of Lacy & Viereck; formed a part- nership with John C. Byram in the real estate business, 1886; secy. and manager of the Simi Ranch of one hundred thousand acres in Ventura Co.; when this property was disposed of continued in real estate investment business. Began railroad career at eleven years of age as office boy for Southern Pacific Railroad at Yuma, Ariz.
