Born in Essex Junction, Vt., May 8,
1887; son of Frederick Parker and
Francis Axa (Bates) Sawyer. Graduated
from high school, Burlington,
Vt., 1896; graduated in civil
engineering from Univ. of Vt., B. S.,
cum laudae, 1900. Three years fol-
lowing his graduation was employed
as instructor to drawing and surveying
at Univ. of Vt.; entered the
Hydrographic Branch U. S. Geological
Survey as engineering aid; promoted
to asst. engineer at end of six
months and held that position in
Geological Survey and U. S. Reclamation
Service in Washington, D. C. Pa.,
W. Va., Md., Ore., and Cal., until 1907;
in city engrs. office, Los Angeles,
Cal.; in addition to his profession is
associated with his father in the
manufacture of artificial stone
mantels, porches, chimneys, fire proof
bungalows, garages, etc. Associate
member Amer. Soc. of Civil Engrs.;
member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Nu
fraternities. Congregationalist.

Santa Monica Bottling Works and
wholesale business, 1892-96; engaged
in mining as surveyor, field engineer,
supt. and genl. mgr., 1896-1901;
mining, brokerage and operating mines,
under firm name of Schader & Johnson
Co., 1901-07; organized Golden
State Plant and Floral Co. in 1901 and
became its pres. Incorporated Mer.
