First employed in general merchandise store, Somerville, Tenn.; moved to Peoria, Ill., 1883; salesman in ready-to-wear cloth- ing store until 1888; moved to Los Angeles, Cal., 1888; followed same line till 1895; traveling salesman for Haker, Gerdts & Co., wholesale mil- linery, Los Angeles, Cal.; tailoring business in partnership with Henry G. Krohn, doing business under name Brauer & Krohn, in 1897; later ac- quired additional store, conducting the two places in the same line of business; opened larger establishment at 128-30 S. Spring St., occupying en- tire building as factory and sales- rooms, and retaining the other two stores as well, 1901; took another salesroom at 459-61 S. Spring St., 1905; bought out Mr. Krohn's inter- est, conducting the firm for a short time under name A. K. Brauer, 1910; consolidated business into two stores, retaining the place at corner Fifth and Spring Sts., and establishing principal store, offices and factory in A. K. Brauer Bldg., 1911; about this time the business was incorporated, and is now styled "'A. K. Brauer & Co., Tailors to Men Who Know." Served two terms as dir.
