R.; afterwards in timber surveying on Crow Indian reservation; mining and prospecting Cooke City, and Stillwater, Mont.; with U. S. engineer corps stationed in Yellowstone National Park and engaged in lo- cating and constructing roads, trails, and general improvement work 1890-1901; Assistant Engineer and Superintendent of Construction, same place, 1896-1901; located in Los Angeles, Cal., in 1901 and became interested in road building by oil process; built first oil paved roads in city of Los Angeles, also highways, boulevards and streets in Los Angeles and San Diego counties.
