R. in 1886; later moved to Col., following same line of work; attended business college, Topeka, Kan., 1889; moved to San Francisco, Cal., With A. A. Grant, railroad builder, and was placed in charge of his business there; remained in this posi- tion until Grant's death, 1901. Served under court appointment as receiver of C. & N.
