Three years' apprenticeship at carpen- ter's trade; moved to California 1875; worked at trade at San Fernando Tunnel 1876, in Modock mines in Inyo co., where he was employed two years by Modock Mining Co.; moved from Modock to Bodie, Mono co., then to Tombstone, Ariz., 1879; worked for Contention Mining Co. as timberman 1880; promoted to asst. foreman; remained with this company until the strike of 1884, when he accepted a similar position with Copper Queen Co., (later Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Co.) ; pro- moted to general foreman, and later to Mine Supt.; remained with this com- pany over 23 years. One of the best informed apiarists on Pacific Coast, being an expert in every depart- ment of the business.
