Newmark, who then kept a store on Commercial St.; sent by Newmark to Fort Tejon to take charge of a business until Civil War broke out; when troops were withdrawn he closed the business and moved to Red Bluff, Tehama Co.; remained there until 1865, when he again returned to Los Angeles and became a member of firm of H. Newmark & Co. until 1885; established firm of K. Cohn & Co., with H. Newmark as partner until 1895, when Newmark withdrew; associated himself then with his sons-in-law, Ben R. Meyer and Milton E.
