Friends of Young Couple Surprised
Rev. Father Egan of St. Anselms church fell in with the scheme
last Thursday of pretty Miss Anna McBRIDE and Harold E. JORGENSEN to outwit
their San Rafael friends.
These friends heard that the marriage license had been issued
and calmly sat back waiting for the announcement and invitations to the
ceremony. But the young couple had a much better plan.
Father Egan united them in marriage in the afternoon of Thursday
and a few moments later they were on board a train for their short honeymoon
in the south. Upon their return they will reside here, where the groom
is employed at the Bogle Electric Works. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
P. Jorgensen, and the charming young bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William McBride of this city.

NOVATO GIRL CAPTURES MINING ENGINEER
Niece of Justice Rudolff Married to Edgar E. Brown in San Francisco
The Novato Banner gives the following account of the marriage of Miss Thomas:
It was known only to a select few that Miss Ardean THOMAS, the charming and accomplished daughter of Mrs. M. A. and the late Dr. Thomas, and niece of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rudolff, was engaged since Christmas to Edgar E. BROWN, a prominent mining engineer; but all surmised that the wedding day was far off. Imagine the surprise of Judge Rudolff and family when this message was received Saturday last:
Uncle We will be up tomorrow to be married by you; your first marriage ceremony. And they came, but when the Judge looked at the marriage license he stroked his imperial and said, Children, it cant be done; this license was taken out in San Francisco. I can only perform the ceremony on a license issued in Marin county. A shade of disappointment came over the bride and groom, but they made the best of it by remaining throughout the day and enjoying the splendid hospitalities at the Rudolff mansion. Later in the evening they were joined in wedlock by a clergyman in San Francisco. Mrs. Thomas, mother of the bride, attended the ceremony.
The bride is a popular young lady, a graduate of the Novato grammar school, also of the San Rafael High school, and has of late been making her home with relatives in the city.
Mr. Brown is an experienced mining expert, at present interested with a big syndicate in developing a valuable magnesium property.
The happy couple left San Francisco Tuesday evening on their honeymoon trip. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolff went down to wish them bon voyage. They will visit San Diego and then proceed to Chicago, New York and other eastern centers. On their return they will reside in San Francisco during the winter, and in Tulare county during the summer months.

Secret Marriage Attended By Populace
Judge Leach Unknowingly Tipped San Anselmo
Friends and Everybody Went
Miss Billie YOUNGLOVE and John REEVES, until last Saturday two persons, will know next time, if there should ever be one, just what not to do if they would keep their marriage a deep, delicious secret.
The young couple procured their license of Deputy Whitaker along about noon.
Are there any city paper reporters here? asked the husband-to-be. He was told that the woods were full of them; that the reporters were paid to send in the names of all applicants for marriage licenses, and thee was no way to stop them from doing it.
Woe is me, sighed the perturbed swain. Is there a Justice of the Peace in the next town south, San Anselmo, where they have no reporters. Deputy Whitaker said there was and gave him the name of Judge Leach, who has but recently donned the magisterial robes.
With becoming trepidation, the couple, feeling that they were the cynosure of a million telescopes, hied them to San Anselmo. The Judge assured them that it could be done with all secrecy. But, youll have to wait for a moment while I go across the streets for a
The truth of it was, the Judge admitted later, it was his first marriage knot, and he didnt know how to tie it. He wanted to get advice. In his peregrinations about town he struck almost every taxpayer before he found one who knew the ritual. When the Judge returned to the waiting pair, all of these same taxpayers were following him, bound to see the think through. And they did.
San Anselmo, enmasse, wished joy and lifelong happiness to Mr. and Mrs. Reeves, of San Francisco, who wished to be married secretly.

with profit the modern methods of Harold HEARFIELD, whose marriage last
Friday merited and received considerable newspaper space.
With a high-power automobile, so the story relates, he called
at t he home of Miss Gertrude MENIHAN in Cloverdale. The young lady climbed
in and was whisked to Santa Rosa, where the ceremony was hurriedly performed.
The parents were then notified.
Miss Menihan is known here, as for some time she was a student
at a local school. Mr. Hearfield is the son of David Hearfield, whose family
is prominent in local society. It is understood that the nuptials met with
no serious objection from the parents.

Al Fresco Wedding Pretty Event
A bower of floral beauty shaded by the green fans of a palm formed
the al fresco setting on the evening of June 16th for the quiet and unostentatious
wedding of Miss Ruth WICKMAN, the charming daughter of Mrs. W. J. Wickman,
and Charles E. DENMAN, of Petaluma, at the home of the brides mother.
Owing to the comparatively recent bereavement of Mrs. Wickman through the death of her husband, only the closest friends and relatives of the two families attended the pretty ceremony.
The bridesmaids, attired in gowns of rich color and filmy lace that rivaled in pure and innocent beauty the colorful setting of the ceremony, were the Misses Geraldine, Henrietta and Loretta Wickman, sisters of t he bride, and Miss Nellie Denman, a sister of the groom. Miss Margaret Wickman was the maid of honor. Mrs. Wickman gave the bride away.
The groom was attended by Mr. Rudke, as best man, while t he ushers were Edward Young, George Caswell, George Wickman and Horace Rice.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Byrne of Napa, a lifelong friend of the late Dr. Wickman and the family. After the binding words of the clergyman had been pronounced the guests were served with refreshments at a table placed on the lawn.
The happy couple started on their life journey via the 11:15 train for San Francisco and San Diego, where they will visit the Exposition. A week there, and then another week or so at other points of interest in the south will constitute their honeymoon trip, after which they will return to Petaluma, where they will reside for a few months.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Mrs. Martha Magee of San Geronimo and her daughters, Mrs. Clara Mitchell and Miss Emily Magee.

Schoolmates Wed in San Francisco
The marriage of Thomas RICHARDSON and Miss May ROLAND took place last
Saturday evening at the North Beach Catholic Church in San Francisco. The
ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Calopy of San Rafael.
Following the wedding supper in the city, the newlyweds sought to elude their friends, and attempted to return secretly to San Rafael. The telephone, however, was handy, and the news preceded them. They were welcomed here, and their arrival was the occasion of another celebration.
Mr. Richardson is a member of the firm of Turney & Richardson. The pretty bride was a schoolmate of the groom.

Goddess of Liberty Dons Brides Robes
Miss Mollie NAVE, whose charming features won her the titles and honor
that went with the regal position of Goddess of Liberty of the Novato celebration,
has renounced the dictatorial rights of the royal clan and submitted to
the more limiting bonds of matrimony.
Yesterday she became the bride of Robert STRUVEY, employed by the Riede and Codoni garage, and with her husband started on an auto tour of the northwest which will take them a month to complete. A very few of the friends of the young knew of their adventure. They slipped away to Redwood City yesterday and were married there about 5 oclock. Mrs. Struvey is the daughter of Peter Nave of Novato. They will make their home in San Rafael.

City Treasurer Married Popular Girl Saturday Night
In the presence of about forty of their friends and relatives Miss
Mable A. RICE and George MURRAY last Saturday night were united in marriage
in a pretty ceremony performed by Rev. Lynn T. White at the home of the
brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Rice.
With colorful and artistic arrangement, the floral decorations of the room in which the ceremony was spoken, blended harmoniously with the white wedding gown of the charming bride and the white carnations she carried. The couple, with the bridesmaid and groomsman stood in a bower of beauty, literally a bank of hydrangeas and sweet peas.
Miss Virginia Rice acted as bridesmaid, and William P. Murray, brother of the groom, was best man. Following the congratulations there was a wedding supper tendered to the newly weds, and at 11 oclock they took the train for Pacific Grove. They expect to return Sunday evening and go to their home, the Kaufmann residence, on West End avenue, which is completely furnished for their occupancy.
Both are well known here and popular in local and fraternal society. Mr. Murray was recently elected to the office of Town Treasurer and Tax Collector by a majority which spoke well for his standing in the community in which he has lived all his life. Mrs. Murray is a sister of Miss Virginia Rice, a deputy in the County Clerks office.

Miss Loretta WICKMAN Becomes Bride
A surprise to everybody but her mother and her closest relatives was
the marriage Monday night of Miss Loretta Wickman to Joseph TUCK at the
home of the brides mother, Mrs. Henrietta Wickman, on Palm avenue.
With preparations for the quiet wedding waiting for her, Miss Wickman returned Monday night from a visit in Mendocino county, accompanied by Mr. Tuck, son of a pioneer stockman and land owner of Willits. When they arrived at the Wickman home with the marriage license, everything was in readiness for the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Father Egan of St. Anselms church.
George Wickman, a brother of the pretty bride, was best man, and Miss Geraldine, a sister, was the bridesmaid.
Mrs. Tuck is the second of the sisters to be married within three months, the first one now being Mrs. Ruth Denman.
Following the simple and quiet service, the couple left for the south to enjoy a short honeymoon, when they will return to make their home in Mendocino county, where the groom is associated in business with his father.

Quiet Marriage Of Young Local Couple
Just a very few of their friends knew the reason last Saturday when
Miss Sarah Elizabeth THOMAS and Adolph SCHAAD quietly stepped aboard the
train for San Francisco.
A few more got curious as the time slipped away and they didnt return. Then along about Tuesday night they came back and relieved the anxiety.
The ceremony was performed in San Francisco. They had a quiet little dinner and then a little theatre party for two. Then followed a short wedding trip southward.
The bride is the charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas of Petaluma avenue, and the groom is the proprietor of a garage and general automobile business on C street. The young people are already occupying the home they had prepared at 622 Petaluma avenue.

Former Local Girl Married In Portland
Belated news of the marriage in August of a former well known San Rafael
girl, Miss Janet DOLLAR, to Arthur Lynn PADDOCK, of Portland , Oregon,
has just been received by the new brides friends here.
Mrs. Paddock left San Rafael a few years ago for Portland with her mother, Mrs. Margaret Dollar, and the Raymond Prescotts, and had resided there since. The marriage took place in the Prescott home in Portland, and the young couple left immediately for a ranch owned by Mr. Paddock in the rich Hood River Valley, where they will make their home. Mrs. Paddock is the daughter of the late James Dollar and the niece of Capt. Robert Dollar.
