Nearly two hundred of their friends attended the pretty wedding ceremony Monday evening of Miss Bernice L. HUFFMAN and Clayton F. STOCKING in the Episcopal Church.

The affair was one of the social events of t he season and followed the giving of a number of parties in honor of the charming bride.

The church was a veritable garden of spring flowers and the decorative splendor which met t he young couple upon their entrance was a complete surprise to them. The ceremony was performed by Rev. G. M. Cutting as the bridal couple stood in a bower of blossoms.

The bride was gowned in a neat traveling dress of blue and a white hat, and carried a rich bouquet of roses. She was attended by Miss Myrtle McNally.
The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stocking, was attended by Arthur MacDonald.

H. Bevan Jones of San Francisco, formerly of San Rafael, gave the bride away.

Marin county and transbay society circles were interested in the marriage Tuesday afternoon of Miss Emily DuBOIS, of San Rafael and San Francisco, and Clyde L. REED, a prominent young banker of San Diego, which took place at the residence of Mrs. Alfred DuBois here.

Editor’s Daughter To Be Married
This afternoon at the Episcopal  church Dora DEAN of San Rafael will be married to Chester N. GILBERT of Seattle. Rev. Mr. Cutting, pastor in charge, will perform the ceremony.

The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Dean and has been stenographer and bookkeeper in the office of the Tocsin since coming to San Rafael nearly two years ago. The groom is an old friend who formerly resided at Kent, Washington, and now holds a good position with the Anthony Motor Company of San Francisco.

The newly married couple will make their home in San Francisco. Thus the editor’s family leaves him. Only recently his only son joined the colors and the office and home appears somewhat desolate. But such are the ways of the world. The young should and it is expected they shall make new homes. The old must make their own plans to meet the new conditions.

Miss Mintzer Catches Bouquet of the Bride
Miss Maricia Mintzer caught the bride’s bouquet at the wedding of Miss Margaret NICHOLS and Edward H. CLARK Jr., last Wednesday in Ross Valley. It was a remarkably pretty bouquet of orchids and lilies of the valley, and Miss Mintzer caught it so deftly, it seemed as if the bride had aimed it at her.

The wedding was an unusually lovely one. The bride chose blue for her color, and the shade of larkspurs predominated. The ceremony was performed at St. John’s Episcopal church by the bride’s father, Bishop William Ford Nichols, assisted by Archdeacon Emery. After the ceremony there was a reception at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Charles Mills, for the relatives and intimate friends.

The bride was exceedingly pretty in her wedding gown of white satin and old lace that has been in the family for several generations. The dress was made with a train and a long tulle veil fell from the head, where it was fastened with orange blossoms, to the end of it.

Mrs. Mills was the matron of honor. She wore white Georgette crepe and a large white taffeta hat. She carried a shower bouquet of white orchids. The two bridesmaids, Miss Eva Lansdale, a niece of the bride, and Miss Helen Clark, sister of the bridegroom, were most effectively gowned. They wore white  net and tulle frocks and large white lace and tulle hats with crowns of larkspur blue. They carried large bunches of larkspur, and the two touches of blue on the costumes were especially attractive.

Donald McLaughlin, the best man, is a Harvard man, while the bridegroom is from Yale. Both came to California soon after war was declared. The ushers were Albert Clark and Charles Mills.

Real Romance In Local Girl’s Life
Every marriage now days is called by the newspapers the “culmination of a romance,” but nine out of ten of them do not merit the term.

The facts in most cases are that the couple met in the old hum drum way – Mr. Youngman, allow me to present Miss Debutant, and then they dance a couple of numbers and walk home together. Everything in a perfectly natural and unromantic course.

But the marriage of the charming daughter of Mrs. Mary J. COLWELL last night was the climax of a genuine romance, comprising the elements necessary for any interesting story of heart affairs as they are told in literature.

Miss Ida Marin Colwell became the bride at her mother’s hone of George F. COLWELL, a prosperous young rancher of Kelseyville. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Lynn T. White in the presence of a few close friends and relatives of the couple. Mrs. Jane McCurdy Bullock of Berkeley, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. Following the wedding the couple left for Eureka with the bride’s mother who will visit her sister there, while the newly weds will return here and then leave for their Kelseyville home.

The romantic prelude to the nuptuals is the manner of the couple’s meeting, which occurred about three years ago.

Through a mistake in mail delivery, a clipping from a local paper, containing an erroneous announcement of Miss Colwell’s engagement, was received by “G. Colwell” in Kelseyville, instead of by Grant Colwell, the bride’s brother, who was summering in that district.

“G. Colwell,’ or the man who is now the groom, evinced some curiosity concerning the affair and the identity of t he young woman who had sent him, a stranger, a notice of her approaching marriage. He wrote a letter of inquiry. It was answered and the mistake explained. More correspondence followed. Both correspondents became curious to learn whether the families, being of the same name, were not in some way related.

“G. Colwell” was invited to call, and he accepted the invitation. Of course, he came again, and again. There was but one conclusion to the acquaintanceship.

Miss Colwell, now Mrs. Colwell, for some time has been one of the most efficient of the employees of the Marin Abstract and Title Company and is well known and popular in San Rafael.

Miss MERK Wedded to Rev. T. H. DODD
Relatives and friends numbering nearly two hundred attended the wedding last night of Rev. Thomas H. Dodd, pastor of the Congregational Church, and Miss Henrietta Merk, daughter of a well known and highly respected San Rafael family.

The ceremony took place before the pulpit from which the groom, since his arrival here two years ago, has spoken to the members of his congregation, by whom he is held in highest esteem.

Their hands had decorated the church in the pretty contrasting colors of the season’s red berries and white chrysanthemums.

Rev. G. M. Cutting, of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and one of Rev. Dodd’s closest friends, performed the ceremony.

The ring service was used, and the bearer of the gold band was little Miss Frances Morgan.

Dainty Irene Merk, niece of the bride, was flower girl. The little Miss not long ago was a principal in a publicly given “Tom Thumb” wedding, so was not a stranger to the pretty ceremony in which she took part.

The bride was given in marriage by her elder brother, Samuel Merk, of San Mateo, and Charles Merk, another brother, of San Rafael, was best man. Mrs. George Merk, sister-in-law of the bride, was the matron of honor.

Following the reception, at which the good wishes of all the guests were showered upon the happy couple, Rev. and Mrs. Dodd left for San Francisco to take the train today for a two weeks’ honeymoon in Southern California.
