Guarded successfully from the knowledge of their hosts of friends for five months, the fact that on August 10th they were united in marriage was announced by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Browne on Christmas Day.

The charming bride was Miss Gwendolyn Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Barnes, of 2121 Emerson street, Berkeley. The groom is a San Rafael boy, born and reared here and now editing the Sausalito News. He is a nephew of Attorney Thomas P. Boyd, the Misses Estell and Mazie Boyd and Postmaster W. J. Boyd, the latter of Sausalito.

The happy couple are making their home in a cozy little flat at 214 E street. The bride is widely known and popular in East Bay social circles. The marriage took place in Santa Rosa. Deciding that they would not take up housekeeping until about the first of the year the young couple preferred to permit the knowledge of their union to remain a secret until Christmas.

An event of interest to society circles in Central Marin was the marriage last Saturday at Woodland of A. H. MANGELS, of the Bank of San Anselmo, and Miss Margaret McCRAE, sister of Mrs. G. E. DeLancey, wife of Dr. DeLancey.

The pretty bride comes from Victoria, British Columbia. She has been a guest for some time at her sister’s home.

They are now occupying a house in Ross which was prepared for their reception.

The marriage of Miss Undine CLEMENT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clement of Tiburon, and Thomas DAVIS of San Rafael, was an interesting event, which was solemnized at St. Stephens church, Belvedere, at 8 o’clock Tuesday evening with Rev. H. St. George Buttrum officiating.

Trustee J. H. MADDEN was married to Miss Gertrude MURPHY in old St. Mary’s Cathedral on California street in San Francisco last Wednesday.

Surprising his friends who were of the opinion that he would forever and aye present a mailed front to the onslaught of Cupid, Christian MOCKLER, last Tuesday succumbed to the wiles of the little god and led to the altar Miss Matilda WARBURTON, a charming San Anselmo girl.

Thirty-five friends and relatives assembled at the Presbyterian Church here to attend the ceremony performed by Rev. Herbert Thomson. A wedding dinner was served later at the home of the bride in San Anselmo, following which the couple left for a short honeymoon trip in Southern California.

Upon their return they will make t heir home in San Anselmo where the groom, formerly and for many years in business here, recently purchased a prosperous stationery business.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, William E. Barber. She wore a dainty frock of white georgette and the conventional veil. A shower bouquet completed the costume. Attending her as flower girl was her little niece, Miss olive McFarland of Stockton. Miss Alice Johnson of San Rafael, was t he maid of honor, and was attractively gowned in orchid crepe de chine with a wreath of silver leaves in her hair. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of spring flowers.

Robert Quinlan of San Francisco was the best man.

Miss Letty Collins of Alameda, beautifully rendered, “Oh, Promise Me,” immediately preceding t he ceremony. She also played the wedding march.

After a honeymoon spent in Southern California, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson will make their home in San Francisco.

Miss Pirie DAVIDSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Davidson, became the bride last Saturday of Lewis Adams MAVERICK, in the presence of the relatives and several close friends.

The bride is well known here, where she attended school for several years. For some time past she has been on the faculty of the University in Los Angeles. The acquaintance began in the South, where, where the groom is Recorder of Faculties at the Southern Branch of the University of California.

After a brief honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Maverick will make their home in Los Angeles. The bride’s father is County Superintendent of Schools.

Sausalito:
Miss Marjorie ROBERTS, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Roberts, was married to Lieutenant George C. CUMMINGS, U.S.N., at Christ church, last Saturday.

Miss Myra DALY, daughter of Frank Daly and a prominent and well known San Rafael girl, will become the bride next Sunday of James Cornelius MURPHY.

The ceremony will be performed at Old St. Mary’s Church, Grant avenue and California street, San Francisco, at four o’clock in the afternoon.

Miss Daly has hosts of friends in San Rafael and has been active and held high offices in Marinita Parlor, of the Native Daughters, and other fraternal organizations.

A large number of friends will attend t he ceremony, after which the young couple will leave on a short honeymoon.

To many of their friends the marriage last Sunday of Miss May BROWN, pretty daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Brown, of San Quentin, and Don D. FOSTER, well known newspaperman, came as a surprise. From other and closer friends the event had not been kept secret.

The affair took place in the presence of a few friends and relatives at noon Sunday at the Old Mission church in Sonoma., Rev. Father Byrne officiating.

Mrs. Thomas H. Foster, sister-in-law of the groom, was bridesmaid, and Lawrence Brown was best man.

Following the ceremony the wedding party motored back to the home of Dan Foster, father of the groom, and enjoyed a delightful repast. A honeymoon trip is planned by the young couple for a short time before the summer passes. They will make their home for the present at San Quentin.

The bride is well known here and is a graduate of the Tamalpais Union High School. Mr. Foster is a newspaper man of wide experience, having been at one time employed on a large paper in Manila.

Unannounced to their hosts of friends and acquaintances throughout the bay district, Ralph B. GUERNSEY, formerly of Ross and now of Marysville, and Aline B. GREENWOOD, well known lecturer, were united in marriage Wednesday afternoon of last week by Dr. Lynn T. White, of the San Francisco Theological Seminary at San Anselmo.

Guernsey, a well known mechanical engineer, resided for many years in Ross. About three or four months ago he tendered his resignation from the board of directors of the Marin Municipal Water District. At that time he removed to Marysville, where he and his bride will make their home. Guernsey gave his age as 46, while his bride entered her years as 45. As Miss Greenwood, the bride has appeared in San Rafael many times in lectures before prominent organizations.

Miss Catherine Willard PITTMAN arrived from the East yesterday and will remain at the home of her parents in Ross until her marriage, set for June 28, to Henry Forbes STANTON, at St. John’s Episcopal church.

A number of social affairs have been arranged in her honor.

Miss Marjorie Pittman, her sister, will be the maid of honor, while Mrs. Ralph Palmer, her cousin, will be matron of honor. Miss Helen Dakin, another cousin, will be bridesmaid.

 Ernest Stanton, brother of the groom, of Detroit, will be the best man, and the ushers will be Miss Pittman’s brother, Kemp Pittman, and her cousins, Geoffry Armsby, Richard Dakin and John Ide Dakin. A number of the groom’s relatives will be present from Detroit.

A wedding of great interest in San Rafael and San Francisco society circles took place at four o’clock today at the home of William Lichtenberg, when his granddaughter, Miss Charlotte ZIEL became the bride of Robert Packer RATHBUN, son of Mrs. Porter Ashe of San Rafael.

Dean Ernest Bradley, rector of St. Paul’s church, read the marriage service in the presence of members of the two families and a very few intimate friends. Miss Ziel was unattended, but her three little cousins, Misses Lillia and Charlotte Johnson and Elizabeth Moore, acted as flower girls. An uncle of Mr. Rathbun, Francis Hewette Davis, was best man.

The bride was beautifully dressed in white crepe de chine and wore an exquisite tulle veil trimmed with lace that has been in the possession of Mr. Rathbun’s family for four generations. She carried a bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley. The little flower girls wore dresses in the pastel shades of pink and blue and carried baskets of baby roses.

Mr. Rathbun who is the son of Mrs. Porter Ashe and the late Robert Packer Rathbun is a great grandson of Robert Packer who founded Leheigh University and the Leigheigh (sic) Valley railroad in Pennsylvania.

The marriage in Santa Cruz on Tuesday, August 12th of Miss Mildred THOMAS, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Thomas of San Francisco, and Norman Howard GREEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Green of this city, will come as a surprise to many friends of the young couple in this city.

The couple left for the seaside resort without telling friends and the wedding which was a quiet affair, was performed by Rev. Father O’Reilly.

The groom has a responsible position with the Ford Agency in San Francisco, whee upon their return from a short honeymoon, they will reside.

Miss Lillian CROKER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Croker of Fairfax, was quietly married the first of the week to Telius CORDONE, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Cordone. Immediately following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs.  Cordone left for Southern California on a wedding trip and upon their return will reside in Fairfax.

The bride was given a kitchen shower just before her wedding by the Misses Edith and Emma Cordone at their home in Yolanda. The guests at the party were Dr. Martha Allen, Mrs. Anna Johnson, Mrs. C. Boracchia, Misses Eleanor Gilhuly, Anna Gilhuly, Robert Dryden, Inez Donnelly, Alice Brady, Jennie Cordone, Louise Grosbauer, Lena Spagnoli, Mary Spagnoli, Mildred Clark, Anne Hansen, Delma Pagno, Edith Pagano, Carmelia Cordone, Margie Lane and Rosetta Lane.

Miss Alice Rodgers, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Rodgers, the well known pioneer family of Nicasio, was married recently to Edward Lartigue, a young business man of San Rafael. The wedding took place at Eureka last week, but friends and relatives did not know of the happy event until the couple returned late last week and announced that they were man and wife.

The bride was born and reared in Nicasio, where she grew to womanhood. She graduated from the San Rafael High School and has since been living at home.

Mr. Lartigue is one of the firm of Rodgers and Lartigue, auto accessories and vulcanizers, engaged in a growing business. He is a member of the San Rafael Fire Department.

Mr. and Mrs. Lartigue will make their home here.

A quiet wedding took place at Tomales Wednesday morning at the Church of the Assumption when Father Keller united in marriage Miss Rena CAPORGNO of Fallon and Romeo CERINI of Tomales. The couple are well known here and their many friends wish them happiness.

Miss Althea A. Youman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Youman, of San Francisco, and Frederick W. Dieckmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Dieckmann of this city were married last Saturday afternoon, in San Francisco, by Rev. Mr. Benk, rector of the Episcopal church. The wedding was a quiet affair attended only by the immediate relatives of the young people.

Miss Dora Dieckmann, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid, and Fred Coole, of San Rafael, was best man.

After a wedding breakfast, the bride and groom departed on a wedding trip south, and upon their return expect to make their home in San Francisco, where the groom has a responsible position as accountant with the California Iron Yards. He was born and reared in this city and attended the public schools here.

The bride is an accomplished young woman and is popular among the younger set in San Francisco. Her father is an eminent engineer and master mechanic in the employ of the California Packing Corporation.

Miss Hazel HOECKER, niece of Henry C. Gieske, was married last Saturday to Lloyd BARNES, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, San Francisco, by Rev. J. Bernthal. The church was decorated in autumn colors. The bride was dressed in powdered blue silk, trimmed with roses. She wore a white hat and carried a bouquet of orchids. Miss Anita Magee attended the bride, while O. E. Gillette was best man. Following the wedding a breakfast was served at the Fairmont Hotel. Upon their return from a wedding tour south Mr. and Mrs. Barnes will reside in San Rafael.

Mr. Barnes is an interior decorator, and a brother of Mrs. Meyers of San Rafael. Miss Hoecker has been with the Independent Publishing Co. for some time. She is a graduate of the high school here, and well known.

Autumn flowers in gorgeous full bloom formed a beautiful setting for the wedding of Miss Florence Patricia ELMERICH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Elmerich to Martyne John GAUSTAD of Sacramento, which took place the evening of Thursday, October 2 at the home of the bride’s parents on Lincoln avenue in San Rafael.

Reverend Father Hennessy of St. Raphael’s church read the marriage ceremony in the presence of an assemblage of friends and relatives gathered quietly in the library of the Elmerich home. Potted ferns, huge golden chrysanthemums and other autumn flowers were combined to give a most effective background.

The bride was becomingly dressed in a gown of while georgette. She wore a veil of tulle, orange blossoms and had a string of beautiful flatseed pearls clasped around her neck. Her bridesmaid, Miss Margarete Waugh of San Francisco was in a dress of apricot georgette, heavily beaded. Lamont Brundage, of San Rafael, acted as best man.

Following the wedding ceremony, which occurred at 7:30 o’clock, a wedding supper was served after which the couple left for a wedding trip. They will be at home after November 1 in Sacramento where the bridegroom has his business.

Miss Elmerich is a graduate of Tamalpais Union High School and attended Dominican College. She has a host of friends in San Rafael where she has grown to womanhood. Mr. Gaustad is general superintendent of the Sacramento Gas company. He was formerly with the Pacific Gas & Electric Company in San Rafael.
