IN MEMORIAM
NOAH S. "POP" YODER
On Thursday, January 8, Noah S. Yoder, a member of San Mateo High School for over half a century, passed away. "Pop" Yoder, as he was fondly known, had come to our school in 1901 as a student. He later trained for the teaching profession and joined the faculty in 1920, remaining as a member of the staff until "retirement" in 1951. Mr. Yoder continued on San Mateo High's district roll as a substitue until his recent death.
Primarily a science and mathematics teacher, Mr. Yoder was qualified to instruct in other academic subjects; and during his teaching career he coached tumbling, boxing, wrestling, and basketball. In the latter sport his team won the Northern California Championship.
Not only are the 2,000 students mourning him, but the administration and faculty members of the district also feel his absense. His infinite patience and genuine interest in young people, as well as his co-operation with everyone with whom he came in contact, will be missed. Therefore the students of SMHS wish to dedicate this year's Elm to the memory of our good friend, Noah S. Yoder.
