"SHALL WE LEAVE THEM ON?" In all the Telephone Exchanges on the Pacific Coast except San Francisco, the subscribers prefer to, and do, "ring up" their correspondents direct, without assistance from the Central Office, except to connect the wires one with another. It often happens that the subscriber called is at a distance from the Telephone, especially in private houses. If the operators do not get the party called on the second attempt, they are instructed to notify the caller and ask if the called party shall be left connected, so that the caller may "ring up" by the use of his own bell. --------------------------------------------------------------- MAKE ALL ORDINARY COMPLAINTS BY TELEPHONE TO INSPECTOR--No. 85. --------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- The Mail is Quick, the Telegraph is Quicker but the LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE is Instantaneous, and you Don't Have to Wait for an Answer. --------------------------------------------------------------- ---end---
