We take great pride in the
fact that we have an enlarged and increasing alumni who are putting their
impress upon the commercial life of this and other cities, and asserting
their usefulness wherever they go.
We always like to hear of the manifold successes of these pupils of former days, not only because they are proving their business efficiency, but the knowledge of their achievements serves as an inspiration and encouragement to those who are now taking the same course which they have already completed. Reports come to us from all over. In every large firm there are employed several of the alumni; many are holding Civil Service positions; again others are pursuing their studies still further, by attending universities. President George DANKWERTH, whom the Western Union Company proudly claims as one of its employees, reports that a meeting of the Alumni is to take place during the first week of April for the purpose of planning a dance. Taking it for granted that you all are interested in knowing the whereabouts of former students, we shall begin by talking about our last graduating class. First in order comes its president, Harold WEULE, who is working with his grandfather. "Schmooie" has not entirely departed from our midst for he lends his presence to us every afternoon by reporting for dramatics. "Vic" HARTLEY, vice-president of the Senior Class, past president of the Student Body, editor of the December '16 Journal, etc., is working on his uncle's ranch in Vacaville, preparatory to entering the Davis University Farm. We hear from him once in a while. Both he and Gilbert BROWN will join Bill GLAS who is completing his first year's work at the Farm. Lillian LACHTRUP recently obtained a splendid position at The Brown Hardware Company. Emily KLIMM and Frances LEVY are continuing the study of their business subjects owing to the fact that they did not take a complete course while at Commerce. Harold BERLINER, first editor of the Pit, and for whom we all predict a brilliant future, is with the Hockwald Chemical Company. Elmer DELANEY is with the Savage Tire & Rubber Company. Elmer finds the charm of school irresistible and pays us frequent visits. Arthur BREWER is with the Ad Club. George PAPE is general manager of a large candy factory. Nat WOLFF is working for his father back in Buffalo. Ellis HIRSCHFELDT of the June '16 class is a representative of Commerce at the University of Southern California, while Frank CASELLS, Vito BRUSOLO, Leslie PAUL, James TAYLOR and Masae KITAGAWA represent us at U.C. Mary MORAN is with the American Red Cross but not as a nurse. Vito BRUSSOLO is also at the University. Wilhelmina HAAG is a bookkeeper at Gullixson's Furniture Company. Ella SCHNEIDER is at home. Grace STRIEGEL is employed with Eckloff & Mueller, lawyers. Laura LUKENBILL has married. Catherine DUFFY is with the Kingstone Jewelry Company. Gertrude PEZRMENTO, the artist for the Leap Year Journal, is a stenographer for Robson & Sattler, Real Estate dealers. Al RIER, who is always present at our launch rides, is Assistant Shipping Clerk for Srye, Fry & Co., meat packers. Good luck, Al! Grace NORTON is still with Sherwood & Sherwood. Raymond O'Neil is working for the Union Oil Company. Pete SLOAN paid us a visit the other day and informed us that he is still with the Northwestern Pacific at Sausalito. Rogue RIVERA is with Capt. Neisser at the Letterman Hospital. Carl SPAIN, University Playground Commission. Anna WITT is at the German Hospital. Loretta SCHULDT is a stenographer for the Howard Automobile Company. John DRISCOLL is with the Associated Oil Company. Fred VAYSSIE is in the hotel business with his father. Hobart MADISON, Edward W. BROWNE - Grocers. William BOOKER, star track man, is with the Boston Insurance Company. Adolph RITTER has an excellent position in the Wells Fargo Nevada National Bank. Lionel RAYMOND is with the Dwight Lumber Company. Villa McCLURE, Educational Publishing Company. Louis THIEBAUT married in April. Miss WATSON, a former pupil of Miss GARBARINO, is now employed in Chicago by one of the largest commercial houses there. She ranks highest in point of typing efficiency. This was obtained through a demonstrating test given by various commercial educators in Chicago, who were endeavoring to prove the worth of their system. Miss WATSON was rated by all a superior typist. The whereabouts of her training and commercial education were ascertained, and Commercial received credit for her training. |
