Off Chagres, Oct. 25th, 1849
"At a meeting of the passengers, (in number 175), on board of said vessel, on her present trip from New Orleans to this place, on motion of E. Snow, of Maine, Dr. P. Smith, of N. Orleans, was called to the chair and Geo. H. Johnson, Esq., of Mobile, Ala., and Col. C.B. Patterson, of Nashville, Tenn., were appointed Secretaries.
On motion of W.S. Pierce of Ill., the chaiman appointed W.S.Perce (sic), of Ill, D. Bates of Ohio, B.F. Bald, of Tenn., James Osborn, of Mo., A.L. Hamilton, of Indiana, P. Middleton, of Ala., E. Snow, of Maine, J.V. Frazier, of Ill., G. Genella, of Mi., Jas. Triggs, of Tenn., B.B. Troxel, of Wisconsin, J. Day, of Minisoto (sic), Pierce, of La., and _. Woodson, of N.C., a committee to report to said meeting a preamble and resolutions expressive of the sense of said meeting of passengers with regard to the Steamship Alabama and her Commander."
NOTE: the article goes on to identify Captain J.J. Wright and and attest to his superior "skill as a navigator." No other passengers named.
