"KEE/SEE--A Chinese Wedding--The Castroville 'Enterprise' of Feb. 10th says: "A high-toned wedding took place in our burg Saturday night, the parties to the even being Sam KEE, a wealthy farmer of this section, and TOY SEE, a Chinese belle of San Francisco. The bride was met at the depot Saturday evening by a carriage from the livery stable and was immediately driven to the business place of CHUNG LEE in Chinatown, where the ceremony took place amid great pomp at 9 o'clock. A Chinese minister from Sacramento tied the knot in genuine Chinese style; the bride was gorgeously arrayed in jewelry and fine clothing. The value of the jewelry was $300 and of the clothing between $250 and $300. This was all given to the bride by lady friends and relatives of the groom. Sunday morning the ceremonies closed a little after 9 by a fusillade of bombs and firecrackers, lasting about 15 minutes. We were informed that Mrs. Sam KEE cost her husband originally $1,600." "KULLMAN/STEIN--HEBREW MARRIAGE -- The Jewish Synagogue was crowded to overflowing yesterday on the occasion of the marriage of Mr. Herman KULLMAN with Miss Amalia STEIN. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. ECKMAN, of San Francisco, introduced by some appropriate remarks addressed to the couple about to be untied in marriage, and to the audience generally. The nuptial ceremonies were then performed, the marriage contract having been first signed, and read in German and English. The customary breaking of the glass which is attended by a deep significance, was, from some cause, omitted, which fact was declared to us upon enquiry, as being at variance with the long established rites of the Jewish Church in the marriage service. The ceremonies being over, the bridal party and their friends repaired to Turn-Verein Hall where a magnificent repast was prepared for them. In the evening a ball of honor of the event took place, attended by a large number of ladies and gentlemen." Source: Stockton Daily Argus, 16 Jun 1862. Transcribed by Dee.
