"FISHBACK/BOWMAN--The marriage of Miss Meda
BOWMAN
and Major George Welton FISHBACK was solemnized last Thursday at
the residence of the bride’s brother, George M. BOWMAN, 480 North
First street. The wedding was beautiful in every particular, and not a
detail that could add to make it bright and pretty had been neglected.
The bride, a cultured and graceful girl, is a favorite in society circles
here; she has traveled extensively abroad, and for the past two years has
made her home in San Francisco; where she has a large circle of friends.
The grown is paymaster in the U. S. A., and is a gentleman of fine presence,
a Harvard graduate and a brave soldier. The happy couple start out in their
new life under the most favorable auspices; and after a stay in Manila,
where Major FISHBACK has been ordered, they will probably take up
their residence in Washington, D.C., where the bride will grace the social
circles as charming as she has done here and in San Francisco. Beautiful
House Decorations. The residence of Mr. and Mrs. George M. BOWMAN
is one of the most elegant in town and to heighten the effect of the pretty
decorations which adorned the interior the rooms were darkened, and the
gas jets were lighted so that when the guest entered they left the gloomy
weather behind them to have their eyes greeted by a vista of brightness,
where flowers and foliage combined their tones with those of the delicately
tinted furnishings. The reception hall was decked in the holly laden with
bright berries. Along the south side of the front parlor was a chancel
adorned with the festoons of white tulle and bunches of mistletoe, while
the large southwest window was banked with mountain ferns from among those
graceful branches gleamed the folds of the American flag. At the entrance
to the window were clusters of bamboo shoots, which lent an airness to
the ensemble. A charming effect was produced at the mantle mirror which
was partially veiled by a large wreath of mistletoe; while cordons of smilax
fell in festoons and formed a fringe around the rooms. The large dining
room was equally as attractive festoons of smilax, masses of ferns,
bright holly berries and bunches of mistletoe were arranged in seizing
combinations. The Ceremony. It was just one o'clock when six of the
choir boys of Trinity Church descended the stairs singing the processional
hymn, “O Perfect Love” with organ accompaniment. The groom and his attendance,
Dr. SITT of the ship Hartford, and Lieutenant ROBINSON of
the Independence, took positions near the large window and waited the coming
of the bride, who entered accompanied by her brother. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. Burr M. WEEDEN, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church;
and the bride never looked lovelier nor the groom manlier then when the
marriage about his were pronounced and their responses giving, clear and
distinct. At the conclusion the choir sang the benediction hymn, “The Voice
That Breath O’er Eden. Elegant Gowns. The bride wore a gown of white crepe
trimmed with rare old point lace. A veil of silk illusion fell on graceful
folds to the end of the train and her bouquet was of lilies of the valley.
The bridesmaid, Miss Edna BOWMAN, wore a dress of exquisite ecru
lace over yellow silk. Indeed, it may be beautiful picture - the lovely
bride and her attendant in their dainty dresses, with the grown and best
men in full military costume, the clergymen in his sacramental robes, the
choir boys in their surplices, with the background of green. About forty,
including relatives and intimate friends, were present and these gathered
around the newly married pair with congratulations and good wishes. The
Breakfast. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served on
tables arranged in the dining room and parlor. The bride's table was adorned
with magnificent bride roses and the guests’ tables with holly berries.
During the breakfast a string orchestra played the latest music. Major
and Mrs. FISHBACK left on the afternoon train for Del Monte, where
some time will be spanned before sailing for Manila." Source: San Jose
